When it comes to running your own biz and having a social life, there’s rarely room left for anything else – let alone anybody. When I was freelancing full time, deadlines ruled my life, and I basically became a super flaky girlfriend. Looking back on that time in my life devastates me. I was dating a dreamy, tattooed English gent who bought me flowers, had a panty-dropping accent, and was the quintessential tall, dark and handsome most ladies strive to reel in.
Ours ended disastrously. The trouble lay mostly in my inability to commit to anything besides my budding career as a writer and his longing for more. Despite talk of marriage and a future in the English countryside (I know, I know!!), we ended up parting ways. He went home across the pond, and I went back to bed with my work.
Now, I’m not saying that you should give up a career for a man, or vice versa. What I’m asking you to do is to make time for both your biz and boyfriend. You also need a partner who will allow you the time to build your empire and be proud, not jealous, in your success.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have their relationship success down to a science. They are both motivated entrepreneurs who have grown together not just personally, but professionally.
That’s what ladies like us need in our lives. Somebody to grow with in all aspects, who also leaves us room to blossom on our own.
