Don’t Quit Your Daydream

July 18, 2016

As I’m writing this blog, I’m staring at the walls of my cubicle taking in the aroma of a sweet smelling candle called “Bahama Breeze.” I really wish I was sitting on a real Caribbean island, typing away at this blog while fanned by a handsome cabana boy in a palm-leaf loin cloth.

I remember on this exact day four years ago I was working from a café in London. It had been raining and people were rushing by with umbrellas. I had a sweet man with an English accent waiting for me in a SoHo loft and I was happy – truly, truly, happy.

Now I am 32 and basically working two jobs to keep my dream alive. On one hand, I have a pretty cushy 9-5 marketing gig. But I still have that thirst to freelance. To keep my side-hustle alive and well so that one day, maybe, I can be working remotely in Europe once again.

There will be times in your life when you feel defeated. You may have lost a client or committed to a full time job out of necessity. You may have lost the drive to write or to paint or to design. And in those moments, you must take a step back from your daydream. But never, ever let it go.

Working for yourself, whether full time or part time, is a huge commitment. But let me tell you, it is worth it. Among the long days and weekend work and client emails and meetings and endless to-do lists, IT IS WORTH IT. You are one of the lucky ones turning your passion into a livelihood.

Never ever ever forget that.  Never allow your inner embers to wither up and fuel out.

If you ever need some extra motivation to keep on keeping on, please drop me an email. I’m always here.
